Taylor + Quan

Taylor was the calming presence needed to create the space for a confident birth. She provided myself and my partner with the valuable information and demonstrated skills that my partner used to support me during labor. Which allowed him to truly be apart of it and gave me irreplaceable relief.

I went through 5 days of prodromal labor before my daughter was born. Not only was she there for a night of very convincing false labor and a trip to the hospital but stuck through 8hrs plus of my actual labor. She brings a calming presence that will wash away a layer of anxiety as soon as she walks through the door, she does not hesitate to ensure your comfort and safety and will remind you that you got this! My partner, the midwives and nurses were all amazing but no one could replace the support and calm that Taylor provided me throughout my pregnancy and labor. I will forever be grateful to her, and I truly believe no one should have to go without the support of a doula like Taylor! - T.L

How could I possibly explain how amazing Taylor is?? How do you even thank someone who captured the most vulnerable and important moment on earth?? Taylor was my birth photographer, and to say she did an OUTSTANDING, phenomenal, BEAUTIFUL job… would be a drastic understatement. Taylor is truly the most humble and kind human being. If you’re looking for the BEST photographer, then stop right here and look no further, because you found her. I will forever be able to look back on the best moment of my life because of her. Thank you Taylor, thank you times a million billion!

I reached out to have Taylor as my doula because my first birth included a somewhat traumatic epidural experience, and I hoped to avoid one during my second labor. I had also experienced an early pregnancy loss the year prior, which made this pregnancy and birth feel especially emotional and vulnerable. From the beginning, Taylor was incredibly responsive to my questions and walked me through what to expect with an unmedicated birth. She was so kind and understanding, and I deeply appreciated that her approach was very evidence-based while still embracing holistic care.

When I went into labor at 3 a.m., nine days before my due date, Taylor responded immediately and met me at the hospital shortly after I arrived. During labor, she was an incredible support- truly intuitive to what I needed in each moment. We talked and joked between contractions, and she also provided hands-on support, like squeezing my hips and calmly talking me through contractions. She came prepared with a wide range of pain-management options and helped me feel confident advocating for myself with hospital staff.

I truly could not have done this without her support. With Taylor by my side, I felt confident in myself, and I’m so proud to say I achieved the unmedicated birth I had hoped for. That experience has made a meaningful difference in my postpartum period as well- I had PPA and PPD with my first birth, and so far, I have not experienced that with my second. Taylor has continued to be supportive postpartum, answering my questions and visiting after birth. I’m incredibly grateful for her care and would recommend her wholeheartedly.

Are you ready to book your birth support?

Before diving into my full time photography career, I spent the majority of the last 10 years being an advocate in my local birth work communities as a full spectrum doula. For years I chose to channel a lot of my birth work into the underserved and underprivileged areas of my birth communities. It is my belief that safe physiological childbirth is not and should never be seen as a luxury dependent upon financial status, it is a right for anyone giving birth. Additionally, the majority of my college education was strategically focused on the racial & gender injustices that currently plague perinatal healthcare systems world wide on both criminal and social levels. After all this hands on and academic education, I took my passion a step further and became a Birth Becomes You Birth photographer in 2022.

I am looking forward to hearing from you. Please allow me 48 hours to respond to your initial inquiry.

FAQ

How does this work?

Either over the phone or on Zoom, We discuss in depth your birth plan and preferences in order to ensure my abilities match and complement your needs. I will begin my on call status at your 37 week mark. We will discuss the proper times to alert me to your labor so I can race over to document! I stay & document your labor, delivery and 1-2 hours postpartum.

How many pictures will we receive?

I have no limits on photos. I give all the best photos I get during your birth sessions, including color and black & white.

How long does it take to get photos back?

Due to the versatility in my work abilities, please allow 4-6 weeks for full gallery return. You will get sneaks before your full gallery is ready!

What if the baby is born quickly?

Communication is vital here. Contacting me once labor is suspected to have begun will give me the best shot to get to you in time.

What if I want to labor in the dark?

It is not uncommon for those to prefer laboring in the dark. I trust my abilities and my cameras low light capabilities to handle low light situations. There are many ways to utilize camera equipment or small flickers of light to show the vibe of your labor in imagery.

WHY SHOULD I HIRE YOU IF I CAN JUST USE AN CELL PHONE?

Over the last 4 years, I have spent countless hours studying and training to perfect my abilities as a multifaceted Photographer. Not only do I have the equipment to combat low light situations and dreadful hospital lighting, I have 10 years of doula work under my belt to ensure you are respected and safe within the birthing space.
