"And they who for their country die shall fill an honored grave, for glory lights the soldier's tomb, and beauty weeps the brave" -JOSEPH RODMAN DRAKE

As a photographer, I have the privilege of capturing life’s most profound moments—from joyous wedding celebrations to the homecomings of my own newborn family members. It was a serious goal of mine to branch out and do more photography work with intention and meaning. Among the most meaningful work I have done is last year is documenting end-of-life memorials for local veterans. These services are more than just ceremonies; they are heartfelt tributes to lives of courage, sacrifice, and service.

I’ve always believed in the power of photography to preserve stories and emotions. For veterans and their families, these moments hold an especially deep resonance. Each image becomes a piece of a larger narrative—one that honors a legacy of service and the bond between loved ones.

This work is personal to me. While I may not have personally served in the military, I am the wife, granddaughter & daughter in law of Veterans. I have truly witnessed the profound impact veterans have had on their communities and families. By offering my photography services on a donations-based model, I aim to give back in a way that ensures every family has the opportunity to memorialize their loved one without financial barriers.

How It Works

When families approach me for this service, I ask that any donation they make goes directly to a veteran-centered charity in their loved one’s name. This ensures the memory of their loved one continues to contribute to causes that mattered to them, supporting veterans and their families in meaningful ways. By doing so, we create a cycle of giving that extends beyond the moment of loss. I have spent extensive time reaching out and compiling a master list of Veteran Centered Charities that take monetary donations around the USA.

Why Veterans Deserve This Recognition

Veterans dedicate their lives to serving something greater than themselves. In life, they embody courage, commitment, and resilience. In death, it is our responsibility to ensure their earthly sacrifices are not forgotten. By documenting their memorials, I hope to provide families with a tangible way to remember and celebrate their loved ones while also inspiring others to honor the service of veterans in their own ways.

Capturing the Spirit of the Ceremony

Photographing a veteran’s memorial is unlike any other experience I could ever describe. These ceremonies often include powerful symbols of military tradition—the folding of the flag, the playing of "Taps," and, in some cases, a 21-gun salute. Each of these moments carries weight and meaning, not just for the family but for all who attend. My role is to capture the solemnity and honor of these rituals while also focusing on the personal connections and emotions that make each service unique.

Whether it’s a quiet moment of reflection, a shared embrace, or the way the sunlight filters through a flag in motion, I strive to create images that resonate with the dignity and love present in these ceremonies.

Documenting veteran memorials is my way of saying, “Thank you for your service,” not just to the individual who served but to their families and communities as well. Through photography, I aim to create a lasting tribute that reflects both the solemnity and the love present in these ceremonies.

To all veterans and their families: your sacrifice is seen, your stories matter, and your legacy endures.
